Summary: "Worked but not as well as I hoped"

I bought this hand feeding kit to feed week old puppies. I have had to bottle feed puppies in the past and have tried just about every brand of animal nurser available off the shelf. Unfortunately, I have found puppies just don't suck these bottles regardless of how the nipple is opened up. In the end, I just squirt formula into the pups mouth a drop at a time--I usually switch to an eyedropper so I can get a better feel for how much I'm giving the puppy. I ordered the Just Born nursing set from Amazon & even paid for it to be shipped overnight. Based on other reviews, I hoped these bottles would be different and the pups would actually nurse but it basically was the same as all the other animal nursing bottles. Yes, the nipple might be a little softer than some other brands of bottles, but still the milk does not come out well. I think they must make the bottom opening of the nipple small to limit the amount of milk that comes down at a time. Maybe this nipple would work better with a larger, stronger pup, but not with my small chihuahua pups. I was able to widen the hole in the nipple and use the bottle to squirt drops into the pups mouth, but any bottle will work for that. This time, I noticed that the Hartz bottle I bought from Walmart seemed to work better than this one I got from Amazon--the opening from the bottle to the nipple is slightly wider allowing more formula to flow down each time.

Summary: "GREATEST NURSER KIT EVER!"

I have raised 1000s of rabbits, and adopted or hand fed up to 100 babies, and after trying every bottle and nipple known to man, I found the greatest hand feeding kit ever!

The Just Born nipples in this kit are shorter and softer than any other I have found. After fighting to get other brand nipples into their tiny mouths and then coaxing them to suckle, my little babies eagerly grasped the nipple and began to feed. I used a razor blade to make a "cross-cut" on the nipple for the perfect flow. As for other brands, I went through 4 or 5, trying to cut them just right to avoid aspiration from choking on the milk.

These nipples are great for baby rabbits, kittens, puppies, or other small animal. For newborns or animals smaller than kittens and puppies, I put the nipple on the end of a syringe to monitor how much milk is taken (the type with a "luer lock" works best to hold the nipple on).

When I had finished feeding, I tried to coax my little triplet babies to take more milk - they chewed and gnawed on that nipple like there was no tomorrow, but you couldn't tell the used nipple from the new ones! Very durable!

I give this product 5 Stars! and an A+. The additional nipples and bottle brush are a bonus. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
